Footprints in the dirt

 

 

Connor looked around at the perfect, unspoiled wilderness before them. The hills seemed to stretch on for miles, the lush green grasses blowing gently in the breeze. Overhead it was clear, only occasional white fluffy clouds breaking up the vast blue sky. In the distance, two pterodactyls circled lazily, but nothing came near them.

 

“This is beautiful,” Connor said. “Just think: we’re the first people to see this.”

 

“Actually, I don’t think we are,” Becker told him, pointing to a footprint in a patch of dried mud up ahead. “Military issue, if I’m not mistaken.”

 

It wasn’t one of theirs.
