The game
Lester heard the letterbox rattle and then the two diictodons shot past him as fast as their little legs would carry them.
“Oh, hell. CONNOR!”
Connor raced out of the kitchen trying to stop the creatures but they dodged past him and, by the time he and Lester reached them, they were playing tug of war with the newspaper that had just been delivered. Sid snatched the newspaper from Nancy and shook it furiously, sending torn pages flying in all directions.
Lester sighed, watching as they quickly shredded the remains of his newspaper. Why did he let Connor keep them?
~.~
Sid looked around, surveying the shredded paper all over the floor. That was fun. He and Nancy played this game every day; if they could beat the humans to the door when the little metal flap made a noise, they got to play with the paper that was pushed through. He couldn’t understand why James and Connor looked so upset, though. Didn’t they like all the lovely pieces he and Nancy made for them?
He gave Nancy a nudge with his nose and they both headed for the kitchen. It was nearly dinner time and he’d worked up an appetite.
