New pairing

Becker stopped dead in the doorway, stunned, as he took in the sight before him. Though shielded by the numerous plants in the office, there was no mistaking Matt’s body pressed back against the filing cabinet, or Philip’s mouth covering his, locked in a deep kiss. Matt’s hands on Philip’s arse pulled him closer, bringing a soft groan from Philip’s lips as their bodies ground together.

Matt’s head fell back as Philip’s lips teased at his throat, teeth gently nipping at the soft skin there.

Suddenly, Matt looked up, his eyes meeting Becker’s.

“Oh fuck! Becks, wait!”

Becker just left.

He couldn’t believe it, couldn’t believe that Matt would do this to him. And with Philip. His fucking boss. The image was burned into his brain; if he closed his eyes he could see them, touching, kissing. How long had it being going on for? Behind his back while he remained completely and stupidly oblivious. He felt like such an idiot. How could he not have noticed? He wondered how many other people knew, how many were laughing at him.

Storming back to his office, he ignored everyone who spoke to him. He just couldn’t face them, not right now.

“Becker, please wait!”

Becker paused, turning to see Matt hurrying toward him.

“Damn, you walk fast!”

Glaring, Becker asked, “What do you want?”

“To talk,” Matt said hopefully.

“You have nothing to say that I wish to hear.”

Matt followed Becker into the staffroom, glancing at the others sitting there. He would prefer to do this in private, but he’d take what he could get.

“Please, Becks-”

“So?” Becker demanded. “Let’s hear your excuses for why you cheated on me. It fucking hurt, walking in on you, seeing you,” he said, quieter.

“I’m sorry, Becks. Could you ever forgive me?”

Becker didn’t see Matt for the next few days, the other man keeping away, just as he’d asked. The thing was that Becker missed him, more than he should, he knew. He still wanted Matt despite what had happened and part of him hated that.

He walked into the staffroom one morning, stopping when he saw Matt sitting there. Matt got up to leave but Becker stopped him.

“It’s okay; you don’t have to go.”

As Becker sat, Matt made more tea, placing a mug in front of Becker.

“I think it’s time we talked,” Becker said eventually.

Matt nodded.

We need to talk

They both sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity, before Matt said,

“I’m sorry I hurt you. That’s the last thing I would ever want to do, and I know I’ve fucked things up.” He glanced up at Becker. “I won’t make excuses- it’s my fault- but I want you to know I’m sorry, and that I still care about you.”

Becker sipped his tea, wishing there was something stronger in his mug.

“Honestly? We’d had a rough day, commiserating at the pub. I was drunk and Philip was there… It was just once, then the kiss.”

Work wasn’t the place for this and so, that evening, Matt came to Becker’s house. Though they had talked earlier, Becker still didn’t know if he would take Matt back. If he was being honest with himself, he wanted to, he just didn’t know if he could. Could he ever trust him in the same way?

Listening to Matt tell him the details earlier had been bad but he’d needed to know. He had to give Matt credit; he hadn’t made excuses or tried to pass the blame.

“How do I know it won’t happen again?”

“It won’t, I promise.”

Matt didn’t push Becker, letting him decide on his own, though he made it clear that he was still hoping. When Becker called him, asking him to come to his office, Matt went. Since that day, Becker hadn’t set foot in Matt’s office, not even looking at the door as he walked past.

“Becks? Sorry, I know I should stop calling you that.”

“I kind of like it, actually.” He took a deep, calming breath before continuing. “I have one condition,” he said. “If you ever lie to me again, that’s it. No more chances.”

Matt didn’t hesitate to agree.

The next day, Matt found himself being cornered by Abby, Connor and Jess in the Menagerie. They had ambushed him and brought him here on his way back to his office.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve got things to do,” he told them.

Connor nodded. “Fine, then we’ll get straight to the point. Becker.”

“It’s no secret, what happened and why,” Abby said, “Or that you’re together again.”

“So, you’re warning me off, are you?”

Abby shook her head. “No, but we don’t want to see you hurt him again. We care about him.”

“So do I.”

Happy Ever After?

They couldn’t go back to the way things were; too much had happened. So, Becker suggested the begin again, a fresh start, and Matt took it, just grateful to have the chance. When they arrived back at Becker’s flat after an evening out, he said goodnight, surprised when Becker stopped him.

“You don’t have to go home.”

Matt hardly dared to ask. “Are you sure?”

Becker nodded. “Yes.” He lead Matt along the once-familiar route to his bedroom. “I want you to stay.”

“I’ve missed this,” Matt said later, content and curled up in Becker’s arms.

“Me too,” Becker replied.
