Connor was struggling; he was exhausted but he couldn’t stop to catch his breath. There was nowhere to hide. Besides, the future predator that was chasing them, gaining on them, would find him.
Suddenly, it was gone.
By the time he’d gasped out a call to Becker, the other man had already stopped, shotgun in hand, still suspicious, but he needn’t be. The predator was on the road, partly under Matt’s vehicle.
“Sorry I’m late; got stuck in traffic,” Matt told them cheerfully, pausing to poke the predator with his boot but it didn’t move.
Becker smiled. “Bloody good timing.”
