Not what it sounds like
“But it’s so… big!”
Ryan paused with his hand on the door handle to Nick’s office when he heard Stephen’s voice.
“It’s not that big.”
“It feels it! Ouch! That hurts.”
“Just stop tensing up and you’ll be fine.”
“I can’t when you’re doing that.”
Ryan frowned. They really couldn’t be discussing what it sounded like they were, could they? No, you’ve just got a dirty mind, he told himself. Besides, Nick wouldn’t do that to him.
Opening the door, he went in, watching as Nick pulled his jeans back up quickly.
“Do I even want to know?” he asked.
Nick’s eyes widened in alarm. “It’s not what it looks like, honestly.”
“So please, fill me in.”
Stephen muttered something and made a dash for the door. And then there was one, Ryan thought, closing the door to stop any more escape attempts.
“It was all totally innocent, Ryan.” Nick sighed and sat down, wincing as he did so. “It’s embarrassing. You know when I got knocked over at the anomaly earlier? Well, I landed in a patch of brambles.”
Ryan couldn’t hold back his laughter. “You’re saying that Stephen was helping you get the thorns out of your arse?”
“And you couldn’t have come to me, why, exactly?”
Nick wouldn’t meet his eyes. “I thought you’d laugh at me- which you did, by the way. I felt stupid enough as it was.”
Ryan sighed, sitting down on the end of Nick’s desk. “So, are they all gone now?”
“Still hurts where that big one was sticking in me.”
“Well maybe I should take you home and put some antiseptic cream on that,” Ryan suggested. “And find a way to take your mind off it…”
Nick smiled. “And next time I need my arse examined, I promise to call you.”
